Work on the inside, too.

Have you read about the story of my two pairs of jeans? If not, do so and tell me if you can relate. If you’ve been there at one point in your lives.

You know, I always tell my siblings that, yes, appearance is important. But what’s inside you, the determination, the burning desire, the passion. Those are more important in the grand scheme of things. You can wear all those designer clothes and accessorize yourself all over. At the end of the day, what gets you that job is what’s inside you. What the person in front of you sees when he/she looks in your eyes. Is there determination, passion, desire to do the best in this person? Is there a smart human being inside all the flashy ensemble?

Trust me, I’ve been there.

So work on what’s inside while you are busy with the outside. It will get you farther in time, believe me.

An open position

A friend of mine is asking me if I want to apply for an open position in their company. Fits my requirements and it’s the same position I left in another company more than two years ago. I joked that if the price is right, I might be convinced to apply. I know their company as well as their Chief Finance Officer very well. I’ve dealt with both several times in the past. The latter more on a personal basis. So I know that if and when I decide to apply, the company I will be joining is a stable one.

But you see, as tacky as this may sound, I really want to know the rate they’ll be offering before I go and apply. I have this policy in mind that why exhaust my best efforts on a company who will be offering me below what I’m expecting? I have no problem getting in different industries. I’ve been with a few already and have enjoyed my working years with each. I easily adapt to any given environment, to any type of boss. The ultimate motivating factor for me right now is compensation. Let’s be honest here. I need the funds more than anything else. Who knows if I will really end up giving the rest of my years until retirement to the company I will be joining right? I don’t look for a company where I will spend the rest of my life with. I look for a company who will see me through finance-wise.

Is that bad?
