Good training ground

Working for an Accounting firm like the one I worked at (MBSI) is a really good way to learn the ropes in accounting. I was tasked to handle 5 clients at the same time. These were mostly representative offices of large companies abroad so I thought it wouldn’t be overly demanding. Of course I was wrong! Those months that I stayed at MBSI were the worst months of my work life but the most fulfilling because I learned so much from my mountains of mistakes.
There were days, especially on month-end, when we would stay until midnight to 2AM just to finish all the financial statements of the companies we were handling. And then we would have to go back to work by 8AM again. Imagine the lack of sleep and stress those days brought me. These were the days when I would think of quitting. The stress was killing me back then. Looking back, I was glad I stayed even for just a few months and did not quit right away.
Low pay. A gazillion tasks to finish daily. Bad combination.
But as I’ve said, it was a good training ground. If you really want to learn everything about General Accounting, Bookkeeping, Payroll, Tax Administration, Local Permits and Licenses and all that, you should apply at an Accounting firm. I learned the basics at MBSI. And I tell you, MBSI in my resume did wonders when I was applying for multinational companies back then.
